I know you were probably thinking that I was gunna talk about that song by Salt-n-Peppa but that's not it.
What I wanted to talk about is S P E E D & SELF TALK. Ya know...I've got the need, the need for speed. Except for when I'm running. And then I'm like, "Talk to me Goose"
I'm on this Quarantine Quest to run a race virtually in each of the 50 states in memory of my dad & to help fill the food banks in each state. I am NOT a natural born runner, by any means, so this quest is super difficult to start with. I decided, on a whim, to go from 0k to 10k in a speedy fashion of, "someone hold my beer & watch this"
Well on week one of three 5k's back to back I thought I was, literally going to DIE at mile 2.5. Like I couldn't breathe, sweat was in my eyes, & my legs were screaming, "What the WHAT are you doing to me!" At this moment in time, my Spotify lost signal & stopped playing my jams. It was just me listening to my breath & my feet hit the pavement annnnnddd the self talk.
THE. SELF. TALK!
First, it was, "Why are you torchering yourself with this craziness?!"
Then it was, "Girl. You've got this...just slow it down so you can keep going. This is YOUR race & no one else's DON'T STOP!!!"
So here is the deal...it's ok to slow it down to speed it up when you are working on goals & it's ok to have "talk to me Goose" moments & sometimes you gotta be your own wingman when it is just you against you. Just DON"T lose that lovin' feeling when things get tough! Any step in the right direction is a step closer to where you are going & it is YOUR race & no one else's!!! Go out & DO YOUR DANG THING!!! Be so dang proud that you pushed through your "talk to me Goose" moment ANNNDDD please sprinkle your glitter! You never know who you are giving hope to!
